Do You Hear What I Hear?: A Raciolingusitic Perspective on the Perceiving Subject – Professor Jonathan Rosa, Stanford University

This presentation reconsiders pragmatist semiotic approaches to the study of language variation by demonstrating colonially conditioned ways in which race and language become co-naturalized and overdetermined. By developing analytical strategies for examining these processes, it becomes possible to reconceptualize relationships between analyses of language variation and contestations of historical power formations.
